Experienced Pediatric Dentist - Over 30 Years Practicing Dentistry

Dr. Rachelle Shaw graduated from dental school in 1980. She is a board-eligible Pedodontist, which means she has received additional education specifically for treating children. A general dentist does not receive this training. Just like you would visit an orthodontist for braces and a pediatrician for your child's medical care, a pediatric dentist is the perfect choice for dental care for children.

Dr. Shaw was voted the #1 Pediatric Dentist by her peers and was featured in Albuquerque the Magazine two years in a row! Of course, she didn't mind sharing the spotlight with a few patients.

In addition to playing the games and getting a special toy and/or fun coupon, patients look forward to seeing Sabrina the Toothfairy (and sometimes her pal Bippo the Hippo!) at every appointment.

Dr. Shaw is proud to be a sponsor for educational programing for children.

Children and their parents can learn a lot from watching Kirby and his friends, which include a puppy on his first visit to the dentist, out in the waiting room, including the difference between a seal and sealants!

Dr. Shaw's website features a fun coloring book to help get kids excited to see the dentist!

There are fun games to play, whether your child is a toddler or a teenager!

Dr. Shaw's favorite games are inside the rocket ship. Patients get to brush away plaque and fight cavities!

Fun Parent's Office

No, we haven't started cleaning parent's teeth (sorry!) but we do understand that adults like to have fun at the dentist as well. For all our parents, we offer a wide selection of current magazines, like Martha Stewart, Smithsonian, Oprah, Cooking Light, Elle Decor, Natural Living, and Newsweek. We also have a big screen TV with shows just for parents.

Fun Children's Office

There is an astronaut to greet you at our front door, a spaceship with educational games, favorite books like Green Eggs and Ham, Angelina Ballerina, and Just Imagine with Barney, as well as a unique activity (giant pinball! magnets in space!) inside every exam room. Everywhere you turn, there is something exciting to discover in our dental practice!

When You Focus On PREVENTION, You Have NO CAVITIES

Here at Dr. Shaw's office, we absolutely LOVE days where every patient has no cavities. The dream pediatric dental practice is one where all appointments are easy check-ups - no fillings or crowns ever. This is why our #1 emphasis is on oral hygiene and the prevention of decay.

Non-Toxic Dentistry

Part of treating every child like her own means Dr. Shaw never allows any questionable products in the office. We use only Amalgam-free fillings because of concerns about mercury exposure in children. Our practice is completely BPA-free as well. This means no BPA in your child's sealants. We have even checked to be sure the credit card receipt we give you is BPA-free!

No Rush! Extra 1 on 1 Time with the Dentist

Does it seem like your dentist is always "gone fishing" when you need them or is constantly overbooked? Unlike other offices, Dr. Shaw likes to schedule extra time for appointments. If her schedule is filling up, she will work late and come in on her days off. This results in fewer patients scheduled at the same time and more one-on-one time with the dentist and her assistants.

Gentle, Compassionate Dentistry - ALWAYS

As a mother of three, Dr. Shaw cares for every patient the way she would treat her own child. You can't gain a child's trust without being kind! Parents are always encouraged to accompany their kids at every check-up and all questions are always welcome.

Your Child's Perfect Dental Home

Just as your child grows up with the same pediatrician, the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that children have a provider that can see them through their dental development. Dr. Shaw is an ideal choice for your child's dental home. In addition to seeing patients when they are very young, Dr. Shaw can provide guidance for future dental needs, such as orthodontics, wisdom teeth, and the eventual graduation to a general dentist. She has strong relationships with many professionals in town and bases her referrals on your child's unique personality to find a provider who will be a good match.
